In the countryside of Chiba there is a southern area surrounded by mountains with an old temple and a pond where turtles live. A bonze asked the wife of Chubei in the village to help turn over soil on the vegetable field at the back of the temple, where a Japanese loquat tree was located. She brought her two children along and let them play on the slope of the upper field, and began working in the field. Her strong, physical demeanor was compatible with that of a male worker. Turtles travel over the back mountain and go to the pond in the front garden, and quiet noises can be heard at night.
